Hendersonville City Council members voted Thursday night to extend the 15-minute parking spaces on Main Street to 30 minutes. That change came in response to customer complaints that 15 minutes is not enough for quick stops at businesses downtown.
The decision will impact 27 spaces currently designated as 15-minute spots, approximately 3 percent of all public parking spaces within a two block area of Main Street.
The Downtown Main Street Advisory Committee, along with city police, city administration and the Downtown Economic Development Department, have been meeting on an approximately bi-monthly schedule to review various aspects of downtown parking
Since the hiring of parking ambassadors for downtown Hendersonville, the city has heard concerns from citizens about the 15-minute parking spaces along Main Street.
Parking ambassadors have repeatedly heard that 15 minutes does not allow enough time for even the quickest trip.
And a recent Dixon Resources study also indicated that 15 minutes wasn't enough, showing a consistent overstay in these spaces.
