In a WHKP RADIO WEB POLL, 58% of the pollsters are recommending an admission charge be made at DuPont State Forest near Brevard.

State senator Chuck Edwards of Hendersonville, wants a study conducted on proposed admission fees, resulting in him being the primary sponsor of a bill that calls for a study examining whether fees would help preserve and protect the forest.

The bill calls for a financial model based on data from other in-state and out-of-state examples, an entry fee that favors North Carolina residents and requires out-of-state visitors to contribute toward the sustainable operation of the Forest in proportion to their use of facilities and amenities funded by state taxpayers, a recommendation for legislative action needed to ensure that forest receipts only be utilized for the capital and maintenance needs of the forest, capital projects and operational changes needed to improve the safety of visitors to the forest who park on the roadside.
