With Colby Coren giving up his seat on Henderson County's elected school board to take a teaching assistant job in the county school system, the school board Monday night decided not to fill his vacancy...but to let the voters do it in the general election this November.

 The school board will remain with six members until the November elections. decide who fills the vacant seat on the board.

The board discussed Monday whether or not to fill the vacancy left by former board member Colby Coren, who resigned last month to accept a position as a teacher’s assistant at Clear Creek Elementary.

The appointee would have only served on the board until November. Those elected in the Nov. 6 elections will be sworn in at the beginning of December.

The board could have appointed a candidate running in the election if they wished. But board members were against that move as it would be unfair to the other candidates.

Three open seats on the seven-member school board are up for election this year. Holt is the lone incumbent running in this year’s race, joining newcomers Ted Beddingfield, Dot Case, Stacey Caskey, Jay Egolf and Randy Ward.
