North Carolina State Troopers are searching for a driver who allegedly threw heavy railroad spikes at three vehicles in Henderson County on Tuesday, June 4.
Highway Patrol said all three vehicles were hit by thick metal stakes. Images posted anonymously to Facebook show one of the railroad spikes impaled in a windshield.
This occurred along a 2-mile stretch of US-191 between Mountain Road and Mills River Park. Troopers said that all three vehicles were headed south while the culprit was driving north.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol Sgt. Michael Owens said troopers are now working with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office to solve the motive and description of the suspect.
“There was a description of a truck pulling a trailer and a small black vehicle following it,” Sgt. Owens said. “I’m sure the other people couldn’t see anything coming before the impact because of the headlights, as well.”
It is too early to know if someone was attempting to target more vehicles.
Anyone who may have information on the incident or suspect is advised to contact North Carolina State Highway Patrol at *HP.
