"The Wall of Honor," a wall used to pay tribute to local veterans, was dedicated inHenderson County on Aug. 15.

Located on thefirst-floor entrance of the Veterans Center in Hendersonville, N.C., the Wall of Honor takes the ribbons and badges of Henderson County veterans, commemorating their lives and service, with 21 local veterans being honored at the event by the inaugural installment of shadow boxes.

"It's just to show everybody what they did in their service; it's a road map,"said Bob Johnson, a trustee of Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post 5206. "Each badge and ribbon means something; it shows if they've served overseas, it shows if they did a good job with a complicated manner."

The Wall of Honor is an ongoing program, with additional veteran shadow boxes being placed on the wall as they become available. Eligibility for the wall includes active, reserve, and or national guard service during peacetime or war.

Additionally, family members can sponsor deceased veterans.
