The SPINX CONVENIENCE STORE & GAS STATIONS company has purchased a 4.72 acre tract of land on 7th Avenue East, just two doors down from WHKP's BROADCAST HOUSE. Price paid according the the Henderson Country property records division was $2,611,000.
The property is in the same location where the former movie theatre was located for many years, and according to Henderson County Mapping System, part of the property is in the Henderson County flooding zone. During Helene, much of the property was underwater.
It is said that SPINX is being allowed road access to 4-lane Martin Luther King (former 4-Seasons Boulevard) during the final phase of construction.
According to online sources, SPINX operates some 90 stores and gas stations in North Carolina and South Carolina, where the chain was established in 1972 by Stewart Spinks. He attended the University of Tennesse from 1964-1968 and played football from 1964-1966. His son Steve Spinks is the CEO of the company.
According to SPINX web site, 90 stores are owned and operated in North and South Carolina with headquarters in Greenville, SC.
No information yet on when construction will begin or the facility will be opened.
