The winter storm starts in the morning on Friday, first for southwestern locations in Western North Carolina and then progressing east and northeast throughout the day.

Most snow or ice will fall during the daylight hours on Friday, but some may not see the storm wind down until past sunset farther east of Asheville.

Some mixing of sleet and/or freezing rain is possible, especially for areas closer to the Upstate of South Carolina.

Snow totals will range from 1-2" for most Foothill locations and 2-4" for many throughout the French Broad River Valley, including Asheville, 3-6" for southwestern valleys, and 6-8" for elevations above 3,500 feet in the southwestern mountains.

Sleet and/or freezing rain will impact snow totals south of I-85 into the Upstate of South Carolina.

Expect difficult travel during the day Friday into Saturday morning as roads may become snow covered and icy, especially those untreated.
