Sallie Thompson, known to most of her friends as MIss Piggy, and owner of Piggy's Ice Cream Parlor and Harry's Grill was recently named recipient of the Clifton Shipman Award. This is better known as the highest honor given to business leaders from the Hendersonville Merchants and Business Associaton.
The award was established in honor of the late Clifton Shipman, long-time businessman here in Hendersonville. Shipman was the first recipient in 2002.
Sallie and her late husband founded Piggy's Ice Cream Parlor on Duncan Hill Road in 1979 and later in 1993 opened Harry's Grill. Next month, the business will celebrate its 40th birthday.
