TO SERVE THE NEW EDNEYVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND MUCH OF THE EDNEYVILLE COMMUNITY
In a “special called” meeting late Thursday held at North Henderson High School, county commissioners were unable to resolve the issue of sewer service to the new $25 million Edneyville Elementary School.
Whatever type of sewer service the county chooses for the new school will also be serving a large part of the Edneyville community, including the WNC Justice Academy.
Options for sewer service include a gravity line, a force main system, and other possible ways of handling the sewage.
A number of options were discussed concerning ways the county can pay for the sewer line, which could cost upwards of a million dollars.
The purpose of Thursday’s meeting was to lay out the options, to discuss
the cost, and to gather the public’s input.
With infrastructure like the sewer line, it was pointed out the potential will be there for increased growth in the Edneyville community. For example...a five mile gravity sewer line could accommodate almost eleven thousand new housing units and potentially some thirty two thousand people.
So, the issue of the sewer line is much larger than just for the new school. The sewage system for the current Edneyville Elementary School is failing, and the county’s goal is to have the new school open for the 2019-20 school year.
No decision was reached Thursday on the sewer line and it was not clear when a final decision will likely be made.
