If you’re in need of DMV assistance in the coming months, be ready to fork up some more cash.

Effective July 1, the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) is increasing prices for about 90 license and registration-related fees.

According to a news release, this increase will be 19.18%.

The reason for these hikes is 2020 state legislation that allowed the NCDMV to increase its fees every four years to better align with the consumer price index.

The best example of this increase is that customers will be paying a dollar more per year for driver’s license renewals, meaning an eight-year renewal will be $8 more.

There’s another fee to know about, sperate from these. Also enacted by the state legislature is that the NCDMV will be charging card-processing fees.

NCDMV Communications Manager Marty Homan broke down all the new charges.

“The law allows us to charge up to 2%. It will be a little different, depending on where you get your service," Homan told News 13. "If you’re in person, it will be 1.22%. If you’re renewing online, it will be 1.85% and if you’re at a kiosk it’s a total 2%.”

These card-processing fees have always been in place but were previously eaten by the NCDMV itself. Now those charges will be turned over to the customer.

Here’s a complete list of the new fee changes from the NCDMV website.
