The mayor of Lake Lure tells News 13 that the lake likely won’t be open this summer for boaters.

Lake Lure has made major clean-up progress.

The US Army Corp has cleared debris and moored boats.

But the lake that spans over 700 acres still has deep silt under the water. Right now, it’s undetermined if the federal government will cover the cost.

"It is a very slow machine FEMA is to act on anything and there’s so many layers. Our FEMA representatives working with us here as well as the Army Corp are great but there are so many layers to make that decision and that’s why it takes so long," said Lake Lure Mayor Carol Pritchett.

Heavy machinery is working in Chimney Rock installing new water and sewer lines below the main road.

State Park officials have promised a timeline in the next three weeks on when the park will reopen.
