The Hendersonville Family YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County announce a pilot program to offer water safety lessons and pool-time fun to Boys & Girls Club members. The program will run from Dec. 15 to Dec. 17, 2015.

The Hendersonville Family YMCA will give approximately 100 kindergarten through fifth grade Club members an age-appropriate water safety lesson followed by time to play in the pool, all under the watchful eyes of Y lifeguards and Boys & Girls Club staffers.

“In addition to being fun, this experience will also help Club kids become safer when they're in the water. We're grateful for the opportunity to join forces,” said Julia Hockenberry, assistant executive director, Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County. The pilot was created to meet the needs of children who attend schools with year-round calendars. These students start their school year in July, and often miss out on summertime swimming opportunities. The Boys & Girls Club and the Y want to ensure these children benefit from this enriching activity.

The December program will host Club members from Bruce Drysdale and Hendersonville Elementary schools.

“We are thrilled to play a part in the holiday season for these kids. Creating an environment of safety and fun where children can blossom is near the heart of both our organizations. I can think of no better way to wrap up a year of helping our neighbors thrive,” said Jesse Shepherd, executive community director, Hendersonville Family YMCA.
