“This is not the end of J&S."
Word got out this week on Facebook and other social media....one of the few remaining true cafeterias in Western North Carolina is closing its doors.
J & S Cafeteria in Fletcher across from Asheville Regional Airport is closing on Friday, but the good news is, there are plans to reopen in the future...according to management.
Major mechanical issues due to outdated equipment is the reason for the closure, according to a statement from CEO and President of J&S Cafeteria Fagg Nowlan, at the corporate office in High Point.
There’s no way for the restaurant to remain in the building during the renovations due to the amount of updates needed, an employee stated.
Plans are in the works to reopen in the future with a new concept, but the date is unknown. No specifics were available on the planned renovation at this time.
Around 34 employees currently work at the restaurant, according to General Manager Ian Paul.
Word has begun to spread among customers, too Paul said.
“This is not the end of J&S,” He told WHKP News the renovation will take 4 to 6 months, they plan to shift as many employees as possiblee to other locations of J and S.
The Fletcher location at 30 Airport Park Road opened in 1992.
J & S Cafeterias still has locations in High Point and Fairview Road in Asheville. The restaurants offer a cafeteria-style dining experience that you don’t find at popular fast-food restaurants,
