Downtown Hendersonville is a few months into its new parking system, and some tweaks could be coming.
Assistant city manager Brian Pahle said while there have been good occupancy and revenue numbers, the parking changes are impacting people from a user experience.
Paid parking began in March and included on-street, lots and the new deck. Officials said the fees are generating about $3,000 a month.
"We’re a growing community, and we just want to be prepared for the future, be proactive by installing the parking deck and really the key change was trying to create more available parking,” Pahle said.
He said the goal is to have parking, and there won’t be available parking if it’s always free. But to make things easier for drivers, city leaders plan to lower the citation rates, expand permit counts and implement shorter payment increments.
Pahle said citation rates are dropping from $50 to $25. The first citation is a warning and then the next will be $25.
