IN THE FORMER SEARS STORE LOCATION IN THE MALL

The Hendersonville Post Office has completed their move into the Blue Ridge Mall and is now open for business to the general public.

Post Office Boxes have been moved and all work has been completed.

Observers of this move indicate that the Post Office is now offering much more convenient door-side parking that may perhaps generate more business for existing mall merchants due to the additional post office traffic.

This move completes several years of study by the U.S. Postal Service for a new location to replace the current location of the Post Office on Fifth Avenue West where it had been located for over thirty years.  This location was purchased three years ago by First Baptist Church of Hendersonville and upon the final move by the Post Office, that building will be removed and the property will be resurfaced for a parking lot for the church.

There has been some conversation in the community on just how much tax-free property a church should be allowed to own, and this new church ownership will certainly open conversation with the City of Hendersonville and Henderson County Commissions for discussion. Observers indicate they have no problem with how much property a church owns, but only with the amount of tax-free property owned by a church. They say with more and more taxable property being taken off the tax rolls, it causes increased taxes for the general public.  Questions have also arisen by how much property the city and county governments have recently been purchasing and taken off tax rolls of both governments.
