Henderson County is seeking local subcontractors to assist with debris pickup and removal services.
“To do things like operating our debris sites and most importantly hauling debris from the right of way to those debris’ sites and then from the debris sites to the final destination,” said Marcus Jones, the accountant engineer for Henderson County.
FEMA has increased the budget to help bring in additional hands to expedite the clean-up process.
“We’ve got a new price structure,” Jones said. “Recently, FEMA has re-evaluated the unit pricing that are paid to the subcontractor based on our mountainous terrains, the difficulties that you have in mountains with debris removal."
There is currently a shortage of contractors.
Henderson County is hosting an informative meeting for prospective contractors who would like to learn more about the opportunities available and how you can get involved.
The meeting starts at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 6 at the Emergency Medical Services Center in Hendersonville.
The county hopes that with FEMA’s assistance, this push will play a significant part in how Henderson County will recover from the devastation left behind after Hurricane Helene.
“We probably have removed more debris from the road right-aways in the last four and a half months than our solid waste facility does in an entire year,” Jones said.
The Emergency Medical Services Center address is: 2529 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville NC 28791.
