A crash involving a Henderson County school bus on Nov. 14 sent two children to the hospital with minor injures, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Sgt. Michael Owens told News 13 on Nov. 15 that the driver of the car that hit the bus head on at the intersection of Ridge Road and Blue House Road was charged with careless driving.
Owens said the two children were treated and released from the hospital.
"With the sudden stop and impact, the kids in the bus just fell forward and hit the backs of seats pretty hard," Owens said. "It was a pretty good lick."
The crash happened just a few yards away from Dana Elementary School, Owens said. The bus was carrying students from North Henderson High School and Apple Valley Middle School.
Kimbrell Arrowood, the public information officer for Henderson County Public Schools, released the following statement to News 13:
We’re relieved to share that the Nov. 14 incident involving a Henderson County Public Schools bus resulted in only minor injuries. We are grateful for the swift response and support provided by emergency personnel at the scene.
Owens said the accident happened just after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Ridge Road and Blue House Road in Hendersonville.
"A vehicle was at a stop sign and pulled out in front of the bus, hitting the bus head on," Owens said. "The driver of the bus saw the vehicle coming and tried to avoid it but couldn't. After the car hit the bus, the bus went in the other direction and struck another vehicle."
Owens said the driver of the vehicle the bus struck last was also sent to the hospital with minor injuries and released.
Owens said the driver of the car that pulled out in front of the bus accelerated and apparently lost control and that all vehicles came to rest in the field next to the road.
