The North Carolina Forest Service and Henderson County Emergency Management held a community meeting Tuesday night in Flat Rock, the first in Henderson County since the Black Cove Complex crossed over county lines.
This is the second community meeting since the North Carolina wildfires started; the first took place in Columbus on Sunday.
The majority of the conversation centered around the Black Cove and Deep Woods fires, both of which are still 0% contained.
Forest service personnel said the southern portions of those two fires are where they are having the most issues with containment, currently. Additionally, the county reviewed its plan for fire evacuation preparedness called "Get Ready, Get Set, Go."
“We’re on the green right now, but we had a lot damage done in that place during the storm, so we just want to be prepared because we’re in one of those areas where there’s no cell phone and so I'm on the 911 alert system, but I still want to keep up with it before the power goes out and I don’t have it,” Gleanus Gilliam, a Dana resident, said.
During the meeting, a speaker with the NC Forest Service confirmed a firefighter is recovering in Spartanburg after being injured today.
"He will be fine," the speaker said without going into details about his injuries.
