A Flat Rock teenager is dead following a crash that happened on Dec. 22, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at approximately 5:16 p.m. on Dec. 22 and resulted in the death of 16-year-old Benjamin Gregory Williamson, the Highway Patrol said.
Henderson County Public Schools confirmed that Williamson was a sophomore at East Henderson High School.
"A silver BMW passenger car was traveling east on North Highland Lake Road at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control, ran off the road to the right, struck a ditch bank and started to overturn," the Highway Patrol said in its report.
Troopers said the vehicle then crossed over the centerline and struck another car traveling eastbound. The driver of the BMW was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Highway Patrol said. The people in the other car that was struck were uninjured, troopers said.
