WITH A NEW LOCATION AT THE INTERSECTION OF BUTLER FARM AND OLD FANNING BRIDGE ROADS   

Mills River Town Council votred Thursday night to give Gala Herbs a $43 thousand tax inventive.

That Brevard-based manufacturer is planning to consolidate and expand operations at a new site in Mill River.. Their goal is to bring in 30 jobs and $12.2 million in investment over the next five years.

Herbal supplement manufacturer Gaia Herbs wants to consolidate multiple leased facilities, including one in East Flat Rock, and expand production capabilities at a new site in Mills River. The new location will be at the corner of Butler Farm Road and Old Fanning Bridge Road, across from the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center.

Mills River Town Council members Thursday unanimously approved an economic incentive package totaling $42,762.86 over five years for the facility, where the company will invest in new equipment to manufacture several product lines it currently outsources to a third party.

The company plans to add 30 jobs by 2021, starting with 12 in 2019, and expects to pay an average wage of $39,600.

Gaia Herbs will consolidate its bottling, warehousing functions and order fulfillment operations and provide office space for support staff at the new location.

The company will continue operations at its existing greenhouse facility in Mills River where “product cultivation, customer service and marketing functions are performed.”

The company said Thursday night they would like to begin construction in August, with a goal of opening the facility in September or October 2019.
Henderson County commissioners Wednesday scheduled a July 18 public hearing on the project.
