Henderson County authorities are reminding drivers that some roads to Bat Cave and Gerton are still restricted or closed due to Helene.
Mike Morgan, chief communications officer for Henderson County, said there has been an influx of people driving around barricades along Highways 64 and 74, leading to an increase in citations.
The Henderson County Sheriff's Office posted a reminder about the restrictions and temporary closures in a Facebook post on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025.
"If you spot any signs on the roads, they're not there to test your creativity in detours, but to ensure your safety and protect the hardworking construction and emergency crews," the post read, in part.
The sheriff's office said affected roads are reserved for residents, emergency responders, and essential personnel only. Ignoring the signs could result in a citation.
