Randy Shepherd, (far left) the co-founder of Crossfire Ministries in Asheville, died on Thursday, Sept. 19, according to associates.

Shepherd's friend and co-founder of the ministry, Jamie Johnson, posted a heartfelt message about his friend's passing on social media on Thursday.

"Randy has always been a Tennessee Volunteer but when it comes to sharing the gospel he is ready to share with anyone and any team," a post on Johnson's Facebook page read in part. "Randy you were the best!"

Johnson and Shepherd regularly appeared on News 13 This Morning to promote Crossfire Ministries' annual basketball camp.

Since founding the youth basketball camp 34 years ago, they have helped more than 26,000 local kids enjoy the sport.
