August 1, 2024

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) made two awards to Asheville Regional Airport for AVL Forward, the airport’s landmark infrastructure project to build a new airport terminal for Western North Carolina.

The $9 million and $3 million grants fund the airport’s expansion to accommodate more passengers, including construction of more than 5,000 square feet for the airport’s north concourse and expansion of the existing terminal by nearly 162,000 square feet.

Edwards said, “The $12 million in grants paves the way for the future of aviation in Western North Carolina where residents and visitors alike will be able to access better quality and more comfortable travel to and from our mountains. While the project has a long way to go, this investment marks a significant step forward for the Asheville Regional Airport.”
