The City of Hendersonville’s Stormwater Division invites community members to help protect and preserve our local waterways by participating in a Stream Cleanup event on Saturday, September 28th, 2024. This volunteer event will take place along Mud Creek from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“Spending a few hours paddling down Mud Creek and picking up trash is both enjoyable and rewarding,” said Hendersonville Stormwater Director Michael Huffman. “Stream cleanups offer a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors, improve our local waterways, and see a positive impact right away.”

Volunteers at past cleanups have removed thousands of pounds of trash from our streams, contributing significantly to the health and cleanliness of our environment. This is an excellent opportunity to make a tangible difference in just a few hours.

What to Expect:

  • Volunteers will be tasked with removing trash and debris from the stream.
  • The City will collect and properly dispose of all trash after the event.
  • Participants are advised to wear outdoor attire, including clothes that can get muddy, and closed-toe shoes.

Materials Provided to Volunteers:

  • Garbage bags
  • Gloves
  • Safety vests
  • Water - (Reusable water bottles will be provided to participants)
  • Waders (available upon request)
  • Canoes for up to 8 people (participants with their own canoes/kayaks are encouraged to bring them)

After the Cleanup:

We greatly appreciate the hard work of our volunteers. During the cleanup, participants may encounter a variety of items, such as trash, tires, scooters, tents, barrels, and even mattresses. Every piece of litter removed contributes to a healthier stream and a cleaner environment.

Those interested in participating in this event can register by filling out the Stream Cleanup Registration Form.
