Blue Ridge Community College students helped to clear debris from the community six weeks after Helene.
On Saturday, Nov. 9, students gathered at a clean-up site in Fletcher, N.C., where residents lost their homes.
The community cleaning effort was part of a service project for the school, but one student who spoke with News 13 said the event helped motivate him to do more.
I like helping people," said Jacob Parker. "Being able to get out in the community after all this mess kind of helps me out, too."
Parker said he has always enjoyed volunteering and opportunities to help the community and looks forward to seeing what doors open after assisting the community in this way.
