Henderson County Road Set to Close Next Week

HENDERSONVILLE– A section of North Highland Lake Road will be closed beginning May 30 as part of a $6.7 million project to improve safety and mobility between Greenville Highway (N.C. 225) and Spartanburg Highway (N.C. 176).

The 30-day closure will affect the roadway between Highland Park Road and Lily Pad Lane, allowing contract crews to make culvert and storm drainage improvements. Drivers will be detoured around the closure using U.S. 176, Shepherd Street and N.C. 225, returning to North Highland Lake Road.

Highlights of the project – parts of which are in the City of Hendersonville, the Village of Flat Rock, and Henderson County jurisdictions – include the following:

New left turn lanes at Highland Lake Drive, Highland Park Drive and into the Park at Flat Rock
An extended right turn into CVS near Quail Cove Lane
Wider shoulders and larger turn radius onto North Highland Lake Road
A rock form liner for the King Creek culvert
Custom colors and paint for concrete, guardrails and signal poles
Portions of additional sidewalk to be added with provisions for future sidewalk connections
Relocation of the existing multi-use trail within the Village Park
Improved railroad crossing

Drivers should use caution and plan extra travel time through the detour.
