North Carolina Rep. Chuck Edwards was the target of protesters this week who rallied outside of his office in downtown Asheville.

The protestors said they were concerned about federal job cuts, a reversal in U.S. relations with Russia and Elon Musk's growing power, among other issues.

News 13's Charles Perez recently spoke with Congressman Edwards on some of these topics, as well as the federal government's plans to further Helene recovery in Western North Carolina.

"I certainly support where President Trump is taking us, as well as 77 million Americans that voted for President Trump and his agenda: to make America first, to prevent taxes from increasing, to keep our nation safe, protect our borders and to reel in our federal spending," Rep. Edwards told News 13.

News 13 also asked Edwards about the House Republican budget plan that passed Tuesday, which looks to cut trillions of dollars in spending.

"I believe that we can accomplish everything that the American people have demanded of us," Edwards said. "There were 77 million [people who] voted for President Trump and gave us a clear mandate that we needed to curb our spending in Washington, D.C. – that we needed to prevent the largest tax increase on the backs of American taxpayers in our entire history."
